Can You Make Use of the Child Care Assistance Program?

If you are a single parent family and you need to work in order to provide for your family, you may be able to get some help through the child care assistance program. This program was established to help, not only single parent families but all low income families that needed adequate care for their children while they were either working or going to school. There are some certain criteria that need to be met and some decisions to be made, such as the childcare providers that you're going to use. If you need the help, however, the child care assistance program may be just the thing that you need.

Before you are accepted into the program and receive some help with your childcare expenses, you need to make sure that you are able to qualify for it. This would be that you are either a single parent family or a low income family that takes care of at least one child who is under the age of 13. At least one adult in the household either has to work, attend school or receive some form of disability income. Finally, there is a sliding scale according to the number of people that live in the house, including any adults or children. There may be additional requirements, depending on the area in which you live.

If you meet this criteria, you will then need to put in an application for the child care assistance program. Most applications are available on the Internet for you to download, and some may be filed electronically while others will need to be mailed off in person. Make sure that you fill out the form accurately, and look at any instructions that may also be available online if necessary. This can help to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.

If you are accepted, you will be able to choose from a variety of different childcare providers. This includes not only after school child care but preschool and even infant child care. The center that you choose will have to meet certain criteria as well that will be outlined by those who are going to be administering the assistance program. More than likely, you will be able to find at least one of the centers in your area to choose from. This may require a decision on your part that can not only affect you and your ability to work or go to school, but also your child's welfare.

Make sure that you take your time after you have received the child care assistance and look at all of the childcare providers that are available to be utilized underneath this program. Check out the facilities and make sure that it will not only be a comfortable place for your child to stay, but that it will also be safe. You should also check out the credentials of those that are going to be providing the childcare, making sure that they don't just meet the minimum requirements but that they meet your requirements as well.
