How to Find a Babysitter for Regular Sitting Services
While parents would love to always be available to care for their children there are times when it is necessary to find a babysitter. Perhaps you have a meeting or a class. Maybe you have a doctor or dentist appointment. Maybe you and your spouse simply need a night out for just the two of you. The reasons are far and wide but the simple truth is that, from time to time, every parent needs a babysitter. If you are lucky you have a plethora of family and friends around, finding a babysitter might be simple. Of course, from time to time all of your regular babysitters will be busy and you will need to find somebody new. How do you do that?
Ask Reliable Sitters
The first thing to do when you find that you need a babysitter and all of your regular go-to babysitters are busy is to ask each of these regular sitters if they might know of someone else who is responsible, trustworthy and will keep your children entertained while you are out of the house. If you only need to find a sitter for a one time engagement, tracking someone down should not be too difficult. If, however, you need to find someone to baby-sit your children on a regular basis, you will have to get creative.
Students
Some parents post fliers at their local high schools and community colleges advertising that they have a need to find babysitters who can sit on a regular basis. This can be a great way to find someone who likes working with kids and needs the extra money that you will be paying him or her. The problem with this avenue, particularly if you post at a community college is that you do not know who might answer your ad. It is a good idea to create an e-mail address for your fliers as a contact point instead of posting your phone number.
Internet
The same trouble can be found online. If you regularly need to find a babysitter, you might consider posting ads on one of the popular bulletin boards like Kajiji or Craigslist. Make sure to keep your contact information confidential until you find a few people that you can trust to meet for interviews. Meet each sitter for at least two interviews and do a thorough reference and background check before you hire someone you met online. Online is often a last ditch effort for someone who finds that they need to find babysitter for their children.
Agencies
Nanny agencies are a great resource for the parent who needs to find a babysitter for a regular babysitting gig. Professional agencies usually screen their nannies and sitters before allowing them to be placed in someone's home. Even if you are not in need of a full time nanny a professional placement agency can help to put you in touch with someone who is available part time on a regular basis. As with every other method for finding babysitters, you need to take your time and interview each prospective sitter thoroughly before agreeing to hire anyone.
